Breeze Through Social Studies CBAs with the DLC
Preparing and assessing your students' knowledge of OSPI's Social Studies Classroom-based Assessments (CBAs) can be easier and more fun than you imagine.
Check out the following resources to assist you as you help your students reach their goals:
DLC Library Databases
- Facts on File: Don't miss the wealth of information for your students in this database, especially the Issues & Controversies in American History. Their World News Digest covers more recent world events.
- SIRS: Along with other research areas that apply, SIRS has a category specifically centered on history and government.
- Grolier Online: Among their numerous databases, we recommend Grolier's The New Book of Knowledge and America the Beautiful.
- NetTrekker d.i.: This resource tracks hundreds of websites dedicated to topics related to civics and social studies.
Washington State Public Affairs TV Network
- Teach with TVW brings civics education to life with short clips of TVW’s primary source programming, discussion questions, and links to state standards. TVW is the Washington State version of CSPAN.
- When the legislature is in session, TVW produces Legislative Review, a daily program that highlights each day's legislative debates and deliberations in about 10–12 minutes.
- Visit the Washington State Legislature, where you can access information on any bill and much more.
These Washington assessments are designed to ensure that students employ critical thinking skills and engage in their own individual analysis of a particular context or topic. Our libraries and supplemental curriculum, including Thinkfinity, encourage those very skills, not only for social studies, but for subjects across the spectrum.
