DLC Student Mentor Program Spring Writing Contest



You are enthusiastically encouraged to submit an essay for the DLC Student Mentor Spring Writing Contest.


Who is eligible? Any student from a DLC school who is participating in the Student Mentor program is eligible to submit one essay. Note: If you are not participating in the Student Mentor program, you can sign-up online by clicking here.

What do I write about? You may choose from the following three topics:

• What is your idea of the perfect society? How would you propose it be constructed?

• If you could time travel, what period would you travel to and why?

• What do you think is the biggest problem facing your generation? How would you propose it be solved?

How long does the essay need to be? Essays need to be between 600 and 800 words.

How will the essays be judged? DLC Student Mentors will judge all submissions based on content, style and organization (rubrics are available from Student Mentors upon request).

What is the prize for the winning essay writers?The top three essays will be published in Student Mentor blogs on Wednesday, May 10, 2006. Winning essay writers will receive a DLC gift bag valued at $50

When is the deadline for essay submission and where do they need to be sent to? The deadline for essay submission is 5:00pm Friday, May 5, 2006. Essays need to be emailed as an attachment to michaelv@learningcommons.org.
