New York City versus...Trans Fat?
New York city is undoubtedly one of the most trend-setting metropolises in the world. It is home to numerous stars, houses Wall Street, has dozens of historical locations, and is on top 10 lists of the most remarkable cities in the world. New York is undoubtedly one of the most famous cities on Earth.
Now the jet setting city sets a new possible trend when it takes on one of the most controversial debates to date; trans fat. Beginning July 1, 2007,a 12 month grace period will be granted for all restaurants and eateries to begin weening their customers off the fatty ingredient trans fat. And as soon as July 1, 2008 hits, health nuts will have a new reason to celebrate when not a trace of trans fat laden oils and shortenings will be found in the city who is so famous for it's down home diners as well as it's posh eateries.

The push for the ban comes from various health studies on the ingredient, which unanimously prove that the fat increases chances of heart attacks, strokes, and death. That information, coupled with the common knowledge that America is one of the most obese countries, if not the most, in the world, pushed the cities board of health to examine ways to make New Yorkers breathe easier when walking down the streets.
The cities obvious dedication to the new program is evident in establishing a health line for eateries, as well as menu guides to assist in possible replacements.
