Summer School
Online courses are available to DLC member-schools that support summer school students in the following ways:
- Teacher/Mentors. A dedicated staff person must be assigned to each student taking online courses through the DLC. Summer-term Teacher/Mentors support students in the same way as they do during the regular school year and are still responsible for gathering student grade information for school transcripts. Generally, summer-term Teacher/Mentors are also given summer Registrar designation in order to submit drop requests and communicate with the DLC about registration and other matters. Schools must have one of the following structures in place before registering students for summer courses:
- A formal summer school program that gives students access to school-supported computers and to their assigned Teacher/Mentor, OR
- Schools need to assign a Teacher/Mentor who will be available to students and families for support with progress, communications, etc.
- Computer access. If students complete some (or all) of their coursework at home, someone from the school's Course Support staff must confer with students' parents before registering them for a course to ensure that home computers meet providers' technology requirements.
Further considerations:
- Course Credit Funds. Since Course Credit Funds (CCFs) can't be rolled over from year to year, consider using leftover CCFs from this school year to support students who need to make up credit over the summer.
- Credit recovery courses. Credit recovery courses allow students to focus on specific areas of a subject that they need to catch up on. Check the academic calendar for summer school start dates.
