Getting Students Involved

Letting students know about Club Commons (CC) is the first step in assembling a successful team. Here are some ideas on how to get the word out. It's often a combination of things that will breed success, so choose a few options that will work best for your school.

School Bulletins: Include a message in your school's bulletin. This will reach both students and teachers who can refer students to CC.

Class Announcements: If you have time in your schedule, visit some classes and make short announcements about CC. You can also write a short note that fellow teachers could relay to their students.

Posters and Flyers: Make flyers and posters about CC and place them in high traffic areas. You can use our template, or design your own.

Email: Does your school have a listserv for students? If so, find out how to get a short email out about CC.

Student Mentor Program: Many schools have students participating in the DLC's Student Mentor program. If your school does, we can have the Student Mentors help by sending messages to participating students at your school.

The Counseling Office: Be sure and let the counseling office know about CC. Colleges and scholarships place emphasis on school involvement and community service, and the counseling office should know about students looking for these opportunities.

Social Networking Websites: Do a lot of students at your school communicate using a particular social networking website? If you already have some CC recruits, you can call on them to spread the word via bulletins, announcements, and messages on any of the popular social networking websites.

Don't forget to read the Student Benefits document and refer to its contents when preparing your recruitment strategies.
