School Support Process
This document outlines how the DLC supports your school throughout the year and the steps school staff can follow to take full advantage of membership.
When Your School Joins the DLC
- You'll receive an email from the DLC to schedule an implementation meeting (new schools) or check-in (returning schools). New schools will also receive a Needs Assessment Survey to be filled out by a key staff member.
- School designates key staff to attend the DLC implementation meeting or check-in. Key staff members should include some of the following individuals:
- Principal
- Assistant principal
- Counselor
- Library/media specialist
- School or district tech support person
- Instructional leaders from teaching staff
Prepping for Implementation Meeting/Check-In
- Educators should think of specific curriculum or instructional needs that might be supported with DLC resources.
- Confirm availability of meeting room and equipment for presentation.
- Send a meeting reminder to school staff.
Implementation Meeting/Check-In
- The DLC meets with key staff for 45–90 minutes to discuss:
- School goals
- Existing programs
- How DLC resources can support both
- Following the meeting, there will be a DLC Overview Presentation (new schools) or resource training (continuing schools), focusing on the school's goals and objectives identified during the discussion.
After the Implementation Meeting/Check-In
- DLC staff will summarize the results of the meeting. A copy of the notes will be sent to your school for review or any requested adjustments.
- School's lead staff person will be responsible for making arrangements for next steps that arise from the meeting.
- The DLC notifies schools about professional development opportunities during the school year via the newsletter (see Ongoing Support Opportunities below) and flyers.
Mid-Year Check-In
- DLC staff will check in with your school via email. A usage-statistics document will be attached to the message. Suggestions and strategies for continuing support activities for the second half of the school year will be included.
- The DLC schedules regional drop-in tours at various times throughout the year. The fall tours include implementation meetings and check-ins. The spring tours will serve as a mid-year check-in (a resource-specific training may be included).
- Use the email check-in or drop-in visit as an opportunity to ask questions or share feedback you and school staff may have for the DLC.
