Introduction

In this activity, we will begin to explore the characteristics of effective staff development related to the integration of technology. We will explore a research-based professional development model that has demonstrated great results.

You're going to participate in a small-group discussion guided by your facilitator.

Getting Started

Part A: Discuss Effective Professional Development

1. Break up into groups of four to six.
2. Pick a facilitator and a recorder/timekeeper. The recorder should pick up a flip chart and marker for your group.
3. Discuss the question below. Record key findings on the flip chart.
• Think of a time when you learned something from a professional development experience that changed your practice as a teacher or principal. What made the experience so effective?
4. Each group reports its key findings on what made the professional development effective.
5. After giving your report, post your chart on the wall.
